Protect Your NC Pharmacist Licensure

The North Carolina Board of Pharmacy oversees the licensure and continuing education of NC pharmacists as well as dispensing physicians, PAs, optometrists, and nurse practitioners.

The six-member board comprises five elected licensed pharmacists and one public member appointed by the governor of North Carolina. This panel is responsible for developing and reviewing practice standards as well as investigating complaints and administering disciplinary action under G.S. 90-14. The board has the authority to issue public reprimands, levy fines, and suspend or revoke pharmacists’ licenses.

The NC Board of Pharmacy will initiate an investigation against a licensee following allegations of professional misconduct, such as:

  • Drug diversion
  • Substance abuse disorder
  • Improper record keeping
  • Gross negligence
  • HIPAA violations
  • Felony arrests or convictions
